Is the human psyche involved in this phenomenon?
Yes, I'm convinced that this is indeed the case. It happened several times that people saw crop formations in their dreams and that those same formations were actually discovered somewhere in a field the next day. As a consequence, meditation experiments were set up and carried out in order to see if the crop circle phenomenon could be influenced by the human psyche.
A great example took place atop Woodborough Hill (Wiltshire, UK) in 1992. Nine members of CSETI (Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence) agreed to - while meditating - concentrate on the first pattern that would appear in their mind's eye. After a while this short meditation was finished and they all drew the pattern they had 'seen'. To their surprise, seven of them had seen the same pattern: three equally sized circles connected to each other by three straight pathways. They decided to concentrate on this pattern and send it into the cosmos. After ten minutes they ended the meditation.
The next morning they found out - to their utmost surprise - that exactly this pattern had appeared that night at Oliver's Castle, not far from Woodborough Hill! Deeply impressed by this event (which could, in their opinion, not be explained away as a coincidence), CSETI decided to adopt this pattern as their logo.
