CLOSE ENCOUNTER

In October 2000, the Dutch physicist Dr. Eltjo Haselhoff proved scientifically that the crop circles he had studied were made by electro magnetic point sources. Or, in plain English: by balls of light. This is precisely what hundreds of people have witnessed in and around crop formations. In 1996 the actual forming of a crop circle was filmed: in less than 5 seconds, balls of light had flattened a six-fold 'snowflake' formation. (See Oliver's Castle Footage).

I too saw these balls of light on several occasions in Wiltshire, South England. In 1997 I witnessed a large orange ball of light flying slowly just above the crop. The light appeared from Tawsmead Copse, a dense and inaccessible forest near the village of Alton Priors. It hovered slowly over the crop and disappeared behind a small shed, never to show itself again. What struck me was the intense orange colour, and the fact that the light seemed to 'breathe', like a ball of fire. Furthermore, the light changed size, varying from the size of a handball to that of a beach ball. Ball lightning could be ruled out, as it was a clear and quiet summers night.

In the course of the years, I saw more lights, but somehow I was never truly impressed. Maybe I had seen them too often on video, shot by others? (See Contact). I was waiting for a real close encounter with the mysterious balls of light…

This finally occurred in August 2005. On a warm summers night, at 10.30 pm, I drove past Silbury Hill in the direction of the Stone Avenue of Avebury. I turned left and after about 300 feet, my mouth dropped as I saw a beautiful milky white ball of light – as big as a soccer ball – fly across the street right in front of my car. It went from right to left, in the direction of Silbury Hill, about 6 feet above the ground and less than 30 feet away from me. In a flash, I tried to explain the light away: a fire fly, no, too big; the reflection of my headlights in the eyes of an animal, no, too high; the eye of an owl, no, too big. In a split second, I realised I had seen something I could not explain rationally. This was undeniably a ball of light! Immediately, I stepped on the brakes and grabbed my camera, but the light had vanished. I sat quiet for a while, in awe of what I had just seen...

Then, it occurred to me how strangely the light had moved: quite irregularly unlike the other lights I had seen in the past that all flew in a straight line. Sometimes slowly, sometimes with immense acceleration, but always in a straight line. This light however moved irregularly, as if it was drunk!

After a few minutes I decided that this could be the beginning of more to come. I drove to the highest point of the Stone Avenue and parked my car facing the only wheat field left that still didn't have a crop formation. For days I had been feeling that something would happen in that field. At 0.00 precisely, suddenly and seemingly out of nowhere, a huge, bright red ball of light appeared. Not right above the wheat field, but a little more to the right, closer to the road where I had parked my car. The light must have been at least 5 feet in diameter. It flew approximately 10 feet above the ground, less than 700 feet away from me. The colour was bright red. It moved just like the milky white light had done: with strongly irregular movements. It moved slightly towards me, but ignored me completely. As I grabbed my camera and started filming, it flew across the street, behind a bush, over the stones of the Avebury Avenue, and it disappeared behind the brim of a hill. Al that time, there was no sound…

I was so excited by this close encounter, that my heart beat had doubled and I was filled with adrenaline! This was great, this was exactly what I had wished for! I knew for sure there now was a fresh crop formation in that field… Unfortunately it was too dark to see anything, but when dawn broke through, there it was: a beautiful fresh formation! It seemed like a Celtic design, swirling through the crop. Of course, I knew for a fact that there was a direct connection between the appearance of the formation and my close encounter with the light.

That evening I spoke with an Englishman who had seen the same lights from different angles. He got all excited again as he said the lights "had moved like a giant bumblebee!" Indeed, an enormous bumble bee, that was the perfect description.

My video footage was a bit disappointing. My small digital photo camera takes beautiful photos, but the video images are not great. What you basically see is a moving red dot. But frankly, I don’t really care. I have the experience, and not a million video images can beat that!
